Swami Dayananda Saraswati (1824–1883) was one of 19th-century India’s most influential social reformers, religious leaders, and Vedic scholars. He founded the Arya Samaj in 1875 and famously gave the call “Go Back to the Vedas” to rid Indian society of superstitions and rigid orthodoxy.
