Arya Samaj History

Founding & History

Brief Introduction of Arya Samaj

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji was born on February 12, 1824, in Tankara, Gujarat. He left home at the age of 19 to search for true knowledge and received his education from Guru Virjanand Dandi Ji at Mathura. After deeply understanding the contemporary problems of the country, he began fearlessly sharing his vision, sparking a national awakening.

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji understood that the root cause of India's contemporary issues was the prevalence of superstition, social evils, illiteracy, untouchability, casteism by birth, and gender discrimination. He began addressing each of these challenges individually.

Recognizing that human life is finite, Swami Ji founded the Arya Samaj Organization in 1875 in Bombay to ensure the continuous expansion of his mission. Soon, Arya Samaj units were established in cities across the nation, built on a visionary democratic structure and clear rules. Following his demise in 1883, DAV College Lahore was established to commemorate his legacy forever.

"The primary object of Arya Samaj is to do good to the world — to promote physical, spiritual, and social progress of all humans."
